Market sanitation plays a crucial role in creating a clean, healthy, and safe market environment. This research was conducted at Sei Sikambing Market, one of the traditional markets in Medan City. The facilities at Sei Sikambing Market remain inadequate to support proper market sanitation, as indicated by scattered waste that may attract disease-carrying animals. The aim of this research was to analyze traders characteristics, market sanitation, traders behavior, and fly density levels at Sei Sikambing Market. A descriptive design was employed, with data collected through observation and interviews. The sample consisted of 60 traders selected using the purposive sampling. The findings revealed that most traders were female (51,7%), the largest age group was in the range 37 – 51 years with 24 people (40,0%), the majority had completed secondary education with 43 people (71,7%), and 30 people (50,0%) had been trading for 1 – 16 years, with 34 people (56,7%) working 6 – 10 hours per day. Market sanitation in the wet food area was categorized as not meeting requirements, with a score of 21(35,0%). Traders knowledge and attitudes toward market sanitation were rated as good (51,7% and 70,0%), whereas their hygiene practices were still poor (58,3%). Fly density was measured at four location: the TPS, and the chicken, meat, and food sales areas. The highest fly density was found at the TPS, with an average of 15.8 flies. It is recommended that the Environmental Agency provide education and outreach programs on market sanitation, while market management should supply sanitation facilities that are currently unavailable. Additionally, traders are expected to maintain market cleanliness by avoiding littering, providing trash bins at their stalls, equipping their areas with cleaning tools such as brooms and dustpan, and washing hands before and after handling goods.en_US
