This study aims to analyze the influence of leader-member exchange on the
performance of employees at PT Bank Sumut Head Office. PT Bank Sumut is
known for its role as a driving force in economic growth. Industrial competition in
the banking sector compels PT Bank Sumut to maintain consistency, one of which
is by improving employee performance. Leader-member exchange is characterized
by trust, mutual respect, and loyalty between leaders and subordinates, which has a
positive impact on employee performance. The method used in this study is a
quantitative correlational method with quota sampling technique. The sample
consisted of 83 employees from PT Bank Sumut Head Office. Measurements were
conducted using the Leader-Member Exchange-Multidimensionality Measure
(LMX-MDM) theory (Liden & Maslyn, 1998) and the Job Performance Scale
(Goodman & Svyantek, 1999). Data analysis was carried out using simple linear
regression through the SPSS application. The results showed that leader-member
exchange has a positive and significant effect on the performance of employees at
PT Bank Sumut Head Office (R = 0.603, R2 = 0.364, P < 0.001). The higher the
leader-member exchange between supervisors and subordinates, the higher the
employee performance. This reinforces that a good relationship between
supervisors and subordinates is effective in improving employee performance. The
company is advised to develop supervisor-subordinate relationships based on
leader-member exchange.
