Analisis Semiotika Komunikasi Interpersonal Tokoh Kaluna Dalam Film Home Sweet Loan

Abstract

This study, entitled "Semiotic Analysis of the Interpersonal Communication of the Character Kaluna in the Film Home Sweet Loan" aims to reveal the meaning of interpersonal communication expressed through verbal and nonverbal signs. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a constructivist paradigm. Data were analyzed through data presentation and conclusion drawing to understand the interpersonal communication constructed by the character Kaluna in the film Home Sweet Loan. The theories used in this research include semiotic theory, interpersonal communication theory, and film theory.. Data were collected through documentation and observation.The results show a complex communication dynamic analyzed using John Fiske’s semiotics at the levels of reality, representation, and ideology. At the reality level, signs such as dialogue, facial expressions, and everyday situations emphasize Kaluna’s frequent marginalization within her family. At the representation level, cinematic techniques such as the use of close-ups, dim lighting, and the symbol of the snail house depict Kaluna’s psychological condition, which is full of pressure yet still striving for freedom. At the ideological level, the tension between traditional values and modern rationality is reflected in Kaluna’s courage to defend her opinions, encouraging the audience to side with the values of independence and justice. From the perspective of interpersonal communication, Kaluna expresses rejection and resistance to injustice through clear, firm, and rhetorical verbal messages, reinforced by nonverbal communication such as gestures, intonation, eye contact, and symbolic actions rich in meaning.This combination shows that interpersonal communication is not merely a means of conveying information but also a medium for expressing emotions, resisting oppression, and negotiating meaning within family interactions. Thus, through the character of Kaluna, Home Sweet Loan emphasizes the importance of interpersonal communication in understanding family conflict and demonstrates how popular media can represent broader social issues.
