Demand for renewable energy and alternative fuels to petroleum has increased in recent years. Energy-related issues are increasingly complex, particularly in fuel demand. Innovation and development of renewable energy to obtain fuel that is economical and environmentally friendly necessitates the search for alternative fuels. Additives are additional materials dissolved or mixed into fuels to improve performance and efficiency. Biodiesel offers several advantages because the vegetable oil from biodiesel has a high oxygen content, improving the combustion quality in diesel engines. Increasing the amount of biodiesel in the biodiesel fuel blend will affect engine performance due to its lower calorific value and cetane number than diesel. Similarly, the particulate matter and water content affect engine filters. Therefore, the addition of additives can improve the quality of biodiesel-containing fuels. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of increasing biodiesel concentrations (B50, B65, and B80) with the addition of clove essential oil additives (0%, 0.5%, and 1%) on diesel engine performance. The results were analyzed using analysis of variance followed by a Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Based on the engine performance analysis, the B50 concentration with 1% clove essential oil added resulted in significant engine performance improvements, with a voltage of 256.33 volts, a current of 16.50 amperes, a power of 4.383 kW, a torque of 10.04 Nm, a fuel consumption of 0.260 liters/hour, and a specific fuel consumption of 0.110 Nm. The best exhaust emission opacity value was found in the B80 concentration with 1% clove essential oil additive, with a 1.20% increase.
