| dc.description.abstract | Background. Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a global health problem characterized by a progressive and irreversible decline in kidney function, which in advanced stages requires renal replacement therapy such as hemodialysis. The hemodialysis procedure is known to trigger chronic inflammatory processes due to blood exposure to the dialyzer membrane; therefore, simple hematological
indicators such as the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are needed to assess the inflammatory status of patients. Aim. This study aimed to determine the relationship between NLR and PLR with urea levels in CKD patients undergoing regular hemodialysis at Adam Malik Hospital in 2024. Method. This was an analytical observational study with a retrospective approach and cross-sectional design involving 51 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria using a total sampling method. Data were obtained from medical records, including complete blood count and urea level results, and analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test. Results. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between NLR and urea levels (p = 1,000), between PLR and urea levels (p = 0,506), or between the combined NLR/PLR ratio and urea levels (p = 1,000). Conclusion. It can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and Platelet-Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) with urea levels in regular hemodialysis patients at Adam Malik Hospital. This suggests that urea levels may be influenced by factors other than the inflammatory status represented by NLR and PLR. | en_US |
