    An Analysis of Meaning Relations in Argumentative Texts on The Washington Post

    Abstract
    This thesis discussed about the meaning relations in argumentative texts on the Washington Post. Through this thesis, the writer analyzed how far a word or a sentence can be called as Synonyms, Antonyms, Homonyms, etc, with other words and sentences, and also how the link connected among all meaning relations in argumentivetexts on the Washington Post itself. The writer started grouping words and also sentences which showed meaning relations into their own groups. The words and sentences were taken from Argumentivetexts on ‘The Washington Post’ which entittled ‘The First Trump-Clinton Presidential Debate Transcript, Annoted’ as the material of analyzing. The steps which taken by the writer in analyzing words and sentences are as follows;Firstly, the writer collected all words and sentences which related with meaning relations.Then, grouped all words and sentences based on their groups, such as; Synonyms, Antonyms, samesounded but have different-meaning, or Polysemys, then analyze them all one by one.At the end, concluded that words and sentences in the connections or the links with their meaning relations in argumentivetexts, can make readers easily in comprehending any argumentivetext. And though this thesis is just about the relation/the link among meaning relations in English only, the writer realized that in Indonesian or other traditional languages will be also founded the usage of the relation among meaning relations in argumentivetexts.
     
    Skripsi yang berjudul ‘Sebuah Analisa Hubungan Makna Dalam Teks Argumentatif Pada Harian Wasington’membahas mengenai relasi atau hubungan makna dalam teks argumentatif. Sejauh mana suatu kata atau kalimat dapat dikatakan bersinonim, berantonim, berhiponim, bermeronim,berhomoponim, berhomonim, berpolisemi,dan beresiprokal dengan kata atau kalimat yang lain, serta bagaimana hubungan antara makna tersebut dalam teks argumentatif itu sendiri. Terlebih dahulu kata dan juga kalimat yang menunjukkan relasi/ hubungan makna yang terdapat dalam teks argumentatif dikelompokkan ke dalam kelompoknya masing-masing. Semua kata dan kalimat diambil dari teks argumentatif pada harian Washington yg bertajuk ‘Transkrip Debat Pertama Calon Presiden Trump-Clinton’. Terlebih dahulu, semua kata dan kalimat yang ada hubungannya dengan maknadiambil. Kemudian semua kata dan kalimat tersebutdikelompokkan, misalnya kata yang bersinonim, berlawanan arti, sama bunyi namun lain arti, ataupun bermakna ganda, lalu dianalisa. Akhirnya, disimpulkan bahwa dengan mengetahui hubungan dari tiap-tiap makna pada teks argumentatif dengan jelas, dapat memudahkan para pembaca dalam memahami suatu teks argumentatif. Ditemukan bahwa setiap kata atau kalimat memiliki maknanya sendiri dan terdapat beberapa hubungan antara jenis makna yang saling mempengaruhi, sehingga dapat dihindarkan salah pengertian dalam penggunaannya. Dan meskipun skripsi ini, mengenai relasi/hubungan makna dalam bahasa Inggeris, disadari bahwa dalam bahasa Indonesia maupun bahasa daerah lainnya juga dapat ditemukan penggunaan relasi/hubungan makna dalam teks argumentatif.
