    Abstract
Work safety procedures play an essential role in supporting the effectiveness and protection of firefighters who operate in high-risk environments. This study aims to describe the implementation of work safety procedures and the performance level of officers at the Fire and Rescue Service of Medan City. This research employed a descriptive quantitative design. The study population consisted of all firefighting and rescue personnel, with a total sample of 60 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safety training, operational risk management, and performance indicators including response speed, technical skills, compliance with standard operational procedures (SOP), team coordination, and response effectiveness. The results showed that most officers were within the productive age group and had adequate work experience. The implementation of work safety procedures was categorized as good, with the highest compliance observed in PPE usage and safety training. However, several challenges remained, such as inconsistent PPE usage and limited routine training. Overall, officer performance was categorized as good, particularly in response speed and team coordination. Nevertheless, compliance with safety procedures requires greater attention to enhance the quality of emergency response. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that the implementation of work safety procedures plays a significant role in supporting the performance of firefighters in Medan City. The Fire and Rescue Service is encouraged to strengthen the consistency of training programs, monitoring of PPE usage, and operational risk management to ensure optimal safety and performance of personnel.
