Body Temperature And Leukocyte Count As Predictors Of Acute Ischemic Stroke Severity Background: Inflammatory processes play a crucial role in worsening brain tissue damage, with body temperature and leukocyte count serving as potential inflammatory indicators associated with stroke severity. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between body temperature and leukocyte count with the severity of acute ischemic stroke patients based on the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) at Adam Malik Hospital Medan. Methods: This analytic observational study used a retrospective cross-sectional approach based on medical records of acute ischemic stroke patients at Adam Malik Hospital Medan, from January 2024 to January 2025. A total of 98 patients meeting inclusion criteria were selected through consecutive sampling. Data were analysed using Spearman correlation, Kruskal–Wallis, Mann-Whitney, and ordinal logistic regression tests. Results: There was a significant positive correlation between body temperature and NIHSS score (r = 0.739; p < 0.001) and between leukocyte count and NIHSS score (r = 0.516; p < 0.001). Ordinal logistic regression showed that body temperature (p < 0.001; Exp(B)= 2.63) and leukocyte count (p = 0.002; Exp(B)= 1.25) significantly influenced stroke severity, with body temperature being the more dominant factor. Conclusion: This study concludes a significant positive relationship between body temperature and leukocyte count with the severity of acute ischemic stroke. Higher body temperature and leukocyte levels are associated with more severe clinical outcomes.en_US
