    Abstract
Background: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a musculoskeletal disorder caused by compression of the median nerve at the wrist, commonly found among workers performing repetitive hand movements. Online motorcycle taxi drivers are at high risk of developing CTS due to prolonged daily riding duration, limited rest, and non-ergonomic wrist postures. Objective: To analyze the relationship between daily riding duration and the severity of symptoms and functional impairment of CTS among online motorcycle taxi drivers in Medan City. Methods: This cross-sectional analytical study involved 64 online motorcycle taxi drivers selected using consecutive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. CTS symptoms and functional impairment were assessed using the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ), which includes the Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) and Functional Status Scale (FSS). Durkan’s Test was performed to confirm clinical findings. Data were analyzed using the Chi Square test. Results: Most respondents were male (98.4%), aged <40 years (68.8%), had <4 years of work experience (65.6%), and reported a daily riding duration of ≥8 hours (56.2%). Bivariate analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between daily riding duration and CTS symptom severity (p < 0.001), as well as functional impairment (p = 0.014). Conclusion: There is a statistically significant association between daily riding duration and both symptom severity and functional impairment of CTS among online motorcycle taxi drivers in Medan City.
