The use of disposable food packaging such as styrofoam often causes environmental problems due to plastic pollution that is difficult to decompose. One solution to overcome this is the production of biofoam. This study aims to determine the effect of varying additions of water hyacinth fiber and polyvinyl alcohol on the characteristics of biofoam made from durian seed starch and to determine the best treatment from varying fiber concentrations (0%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) and varying PVA concentrations (20% and 30%). The results showed that the best treatment was S3P1 with a fiber concentration of 15% and PVA concentration of 20%, which produced biofoam with low absorbency, high density, and good biodegradability. This indicates that the combination of water hyacinth fiber and PVA has the potential to substitute styrofoam.
