Background. Visual acuity assessment is a key component in eye health examinations, one of the most widely used subjective techniques is using the Snellen Chart. Advances in smartphone technology have enabled the development of applications that can measure visual acuity, one of which is PEEK Acuity. Objective. To measure the extent of differences in visual acuity measurement results using the PEEK Acuity application and the Snellen Chart in students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of North Sumatra. Methods. The study used an analytical design that aimed to analyze the comparison between visual acuity results between the Snellen Chart and PEEK Acuity in students of the Faculty of Medicine, USU, class of 2022-2024. Data were obtained by examining visual acuity using the Snellen Chart and the PEEK Acuity application. Bivariate analysis with the Wilcoxon and Spearman tests. Results. Analysis with the Wilcoxon test revealed a significant difference in visual acuity between the examination with the Snellen Chart and the PEEK Acuity application (p = 0.001). The Spearman test further indicated that the two methods were positively related with a high correlation strength. Conclusion. This study shows a significant difference and positive correlation between Snellen Chart scores and the PEEK Acuity app.
