| dc.description.abstract | Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) is an unsaturated ester chemical compound with the molecular formula C5H8O2 which has high economic value, primarily used as a raw material for the manufacture of Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA), surface coatings, and adhesives. In addition, Methyl Methacrylate is also widely used in the emulsion paint and resin modification industries. The preliminary plant design for the manufacture of Methyl Methacrylate from methacrolein, oxygen and methanol is designed with a production capacity of 50,000 tons/year and operates continuously for 330 days a year. The production process stages include raw material preparation, the synthesis process of Methyl Methacrylate via the Direct Oxidative Esterification reaction, and the product separation and purification process. The formation reaction takes place in a Fixed Bed Multitube Reactor using an Au25/Zn2Al-400 catalyst at operating conditions of 80°C temperature and 3 atm pressure. The plant location is planned to be in the PT Kaltim Industrial Estate (KIE), Bontang City, East Kalimantan, with a plant area of 18,946 m². The required workforce is 142 employees with a Limited Liability Company (PT) business form applying a line organization structure. The economic evaluation results show a total Capital Investment of Rp1,546,955,920,525; Production Cost of Rp1,828,214,407,106; Total Sales of Rp2,432,878,375,095; and Net Profit of Rp373,686,000,233. The feasibility analysis yields a Profit Margin of 15.3598%; Return on Investment of 24.1562%; Return on Network of 40.2604%; and Internal Rate of Return of 23.3302%. This preliminary plant design is projected to reach the Break Even Point (BEP) at 45.3280% capacity with a Pay Out Time (POT) of 4 years and 2 months. Based on the analysis of technical and economic aspects, this preliminary plant design is declared feasible to be established. | en_US |
