    Abstract
    This study aims to describe features of woman’s language in the speech of female character’s in the film بسمة /basmah/ Basma. The theoretical basis used in this study is the sociolinguistic theory of language and gender proposed by Lakoff. The method applied in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques in the form of listening and note taking. The data analyzed in this study are the utterances found in the dialogues of the film Basma that contain features of woman’s language. This study focuses on the identification and analysis of the use of woman’s language features in the utterances of the female characters in the film بسمة /basmah/ Basma. The features include lexical hedges or fillers, tag questions, rising intonation on declaratives, empty adjectives, intensifiers, precise color terms, hypercorrect grammar, superpolite forms, avoidance of strong swear words, and emphatic stress. The results show that there are 50 utterances identified as containing woman’s language features. Of the ten features proposed by Lakoff, only seven were found in this film. The most dominant feature identified is lexical hedges or fillers was found in 12 utterances, Tag questions were found in 6 utterances, rising intonation on declaratives was found in 5 utterances, empty adjectives were found in 3 utterances, intensifiers were found in 10 utterances, superpolite forms were found in 6 utterances, and emphatic stress was found in 8 utterances. Meanwhile, the features of precise color terms, hypercorrect grammar, and avoidance of strong swear words are not found in this film.
