Objective : This study aimed to evaluate the association between serum magnesium levels and lactate levels in sepsis patients treated at Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan.
Methods : This study is an analytical study with a cross-sectional design, which measures several variables at the same time within a specific period. Data were collected from patients treated at Adam Malik Hospital in Medan. Sampling was conducted consecutively on all subjects who met the study criteria. Data were analyzed using the Spearmann test.
Results : Of the 30 study participants, the majority (63%) were female. The mean age of the study subjects was 60.20 years, with a range of 34 to 88 years. Serum magnesium levels were found to be at the lower end of the normal range, averaging 1.82 mg/dL, while lactate levels showed an increase, averaging 24.5 in sepsis patients. There was no significant relationship between magnesium levels and lactate levels in sepsis patients, with a P-value of 0.886. Analysis of magnesium levels and lactate levels also showed a non-significant negative correlation with the severity of sepsis based on SOFA scores, with P-values of 0.861 and 0.817, respectively.
Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between magnesium levels and lactate levels in sepsis patients, with a P-value of 0.886.
