Pengaruh Penggunaan Jasa Pegadaian Swasta Terhadap Pemenuhan Kebutuhan Mahasiswa FISIP USU

Abstract

Students represent a segment of society with various living needs, ranging from primary needs such as food and housing to secondary and tertiary needs like educational expenses, internet access, and entertainment. However, not all students have stable financial conditions to fulfill these needs. One alternative often utilized by students to obtain additional funds is the use of private pawnshop services, which are considered more accessible and faster in processing compared to formal financial institutions. This research aims to analyze the influence of private pawnshop services on fulfilling the living needs of students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Sumatera Utara (FISIP USU). The study employs a quantitative method with a sample of 100 randomly selected FISIP USU students. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire, which was tested for validity and reliability before analysis. Data analysis was conducted using the Pearson Product Moment correlation technique to determine the relationship between the use of private pawnshop services as the independent variable (X) and the fulfillment of students' living needs as the dependent variable (Y). The research findings indicate a positive and significant relationship between the use of private pawnshop services and the fulfillment of students’ living needs. The obtained correlation coefficient is 0.881 with a significance level of 1.408e-33, indicating that the higher the utilization of private pawnshop services, the better the students’ ability to fulfill their living needs, especially regarding financial necessities, emergency needs, and educational expenses. This study concludes that private pawnshop services play an important role as an alternative financial solution for students, although their use should be approached wisely to avoid potential economic risks in the future.
