Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is an infectious disease that causes the largest number of deaths in the world. Indonesia is in second place for pulmonary TB cases after India. Adherence to TB treatment is a dynamic phenomenon with various factors interacting with each other. Initial efforts are needed to increase patient compliance rates and reduce treatment dropout rates so that they do not fall into a more serious condition leading to death. The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with loss to follow-up treatment in DR pulmonary TB patients at Adam Malik Hospital, Medan. This research is a descriptive analytical study using a cross-sectional approach carried out at Adam Malik Hospital on DR-TB patients who had been diagnosed bacteriologically. The data used were 104 patient subject, 34 of them were patients who loss to follow-up DR-TB treatment(case group) and 70 completed treatment (control group). Out of total patients within case group, 65% were aged between 45–65 years, 55.9% were male, 91.2% graduated from high school or equivalent, 58.8% were working, 70,6% were married, 94.1% had no family history of having TB, 67.6% had poor attitude, 85.3% had low – moderate social support and received less support from healthcare services (64.7%). Based on multivariate analysis, low – moderate social support (PR=14.01; 95% CI=4.26–46.02; p<0.001) is the main risk factor associated with the incidence DR-TB loss to follow-up treatment. This study highlights low – moderate social support is the main factor influencing the incidence of loss to follow-up treatment in DR-TB patients.
