Implementation Of An Iot-Based Plant Monitoring System For Smart Agriculture Using Soil Moisture Sensors
Abstract
The development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology provides significant opportunities to improve efficiency and productivity in the agricultural sector, particularly in managing plant water requirements. One of the main problems commonly faced by farmers is that irrigation is still performed manually, making it inefficient and not based on actual soil moisture conditions. Therefore, a plant monitoring system is needed that is capable of monitoring soil conditions in real time and automatically. This study aims to implement an IoT-based plant monitoring system using a soil moisture sensor to support the concept of smart agriculture. The method used includes hardware design using an ESP32 microcontroller, a soil moisture sensor, a relay, and a water pump, as well as software development for data transmission to the Blynk application via the internet network. The system operates by reading soil moisture values and displaying the data in real time on the Blynk application, and automatically activating the water pump when the soil moisture value falls below a predetermined threshold. The results show that when the sensor detects dry soil conditions with a moisture value of 30 ADC displayed on the Blynk application, the system automatically activates the water pump to perform irrigation. Thus, the system is able to accurately monitor soil moisture and automatically control plant irrigation, resulting in more efficient water usage and optimal plant maintenance.
