Public libraries play an important role in providing reading materials that support community literacy. Fiction collections in libraries serve not only as entertainment but also as tools for education and social reflection. To ensure the continued relevance and usefulness of these collections, comprehensive mapping of their characteristics is necessary. This study aims to map the fiction collections available at the Library and Archives Office of North Sumatra Province in June 2025, which is based on city of publication, publisher name, year of publication, physical description, and reading subject. This research employs a descriptive quantitative approach using primary data in the form of a fiction collection catalogue comprising 574 items. Data were collected through direct observation, document analysis, and literature review, The data were analyzed using editing, tabulation, and percentage calculation techniques. The fiction collection is dominated by publications from Jakarta (66.45%) and the publisher Gramedia Pustaka Utama (29.61%). The most common years of publication are 2023 and 2022 that indicates recent updates to the collection. In addition, most books contain between 200–399 pages. Based on the result, the most prevalent subject is Indonesian fiction (34.87%), followed by American and British fiction. The mapping also reveals that the fiction collection at the Library and Archives Office of North Sumatra Province is relatively diverse but remains concentrated on major publishers and certain subjects. Diversification of subjects and a more even distribution of collections from various publishers and regions are needed to meet users' needs more inclusively.en_US
