Abstract
Periodontitis is closely associated with the bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis, making the development of biocompatible antimicrobial agents important for periodontal therapy. This study evaluated the antibacterial effect of a gel containing carboxymethyl chitosan, hyaluronic acid, and collagen, as well as its cytotoxicity on 3T3 fibroblast cells. Antibacterial activity was assessed using the Kirby–Bauer method on Brucella Agar with 5% sheep blood, while cytotoxicity was evaluated with the MTT assay according to ISO 10993-5. The gel produced an inhibition zone of 16.90 mm, indicating strong antibacterial activity. Fibroblast cell viability reached 90,32%, classifying the material as non-cytotoxic. In conclusion, the combination gel demonstrates strong antibacterial effects against P. gingivalis and exhibits good biocompatibility, supporting its potential as a local therapeutic agent in periodontal treatment.
