WAHYU MULIANSYAH LUBIS. Vegetation diversity in several Public Green Open Spaces in Medan City, supervised by Moehar Maraghiy Harahap and Ma'rifatin Zahrah.
Public Green Open Spaces (GOS) play an important role in maintaining urban ecosystem balance and environmental quality. This research aims to analyze the structure, types, and composition of vegetation in several public GOS in Medan City, North Sumatra Province. This study aims to examine the diversity, richness, and evenness of vegetation species, as well as to find similarities in vegetation species among the studied GOS locations. The research was conducted using purposive sampling method, carried out at five public GOS locations in Medan City: Cadika Park, Gajah Mada Park, Benteng Field, Beringin City Park, and Ahmad Yani Park. Vegetation analysis included species inventory, calculation of Shannon-Wiener diversity index, richness index, evenness index, and community similarity index among locations. The research results show that Mahogany (Swietenia mahogani) is the most dominant vegetation species and is found in all research locations. Other common species include Tamarind (Tamarindus indica) and Mango (Mangifera indica). Each location has different dominance characteristics: Trembesi dominates Cadika Park, Neem in Gajah Mada area, Tamarind in Benteng Field, Matoa in Beringin City Park, and Mahogany in Ahmad Yani Park. It is expected that efforts will be made to improve vegetation quality to create better Green Open Spaces.
