Background: Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide. Recent studies have begun to highlight the potential of Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) as a prognostic biomarker in lung cancer patients. Several studies have reported that SIRT1 overexpression is associated with poor prognosis in various malignancies.
Objective: To investigate the role of Sirtuin 1 as a prognostic biomarker in patients with non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) based on demographic and clinical factors.
Materials and Methods: This was an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design involving 41 histopathological samples from patients with NSCLC. Immunohistochemical staining for SIRT1 was performed on all samples. The data obtained were analyzed using statistical software to evaluate the association between SIRT1 immunohistochemical expression and age, sex, type of NSCLC and NSCLC subtype.
Results: There was a significant association between SIRT1 immunohistochemical expression with NSCLC subtypes (p<0.05).
