Analysis of Factors Related to Workers Compliance in Using of Personal Protective Equipment at PT Radiant Utama Interinsco Tbk. Duri Branch
Abstract
PT Radiant Utama Interinsco Tbk. Duri Branch is a company engaged in the oil and gas sector, which involves high-risk activities; therefore, the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is essential to protect workers from physical hazards and exposure to harmful chemicals. Preliminary observations found that some workers did not wear Safety Glasses and Heavy Duty Hand Gloves while performing their tasks. This study is a quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of 199 workers, with a sample of 66 respondents. Data were collected using a Google Form–based questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between work tenure (p=0.135) and compliance with PPE use. However, there was a significant relationship between knowledge (p=0.023), safety socialization (p=0.015), and supervision (p=0.003) with PPE compliance among workers at PT Radiant Utama Interinsco Tbk. Duri Branch. It is recommended that the management conduct random visits at least once every six months. HSE Officers are encouraged to deliver safety talks more routinely before work and carry out random inspections during work processes. The company is also advised to add posters or warnings regarding the importance of PPE usage in strategic areas to ensure visibility for workers.
