| dc.description.abstract | Soft silicone denture liners are long-term denture lining materials that come into direct contact with oral cavity tissues. The rough surface of soft denture liners can support the colonization of Candida albicans, which causes denture stomatitis. One effort to prevent Candida colonization is by adding a natural antifungal agent, namely oregano gel (Origanum vulgare). Oregano gel is obtained through the extraction of oregano leaves using the steam distillation method, which then produces oregano oil and is converted into a gel form to facilitate the mixing process with the soft denture liner material. This study aims to determine the effect of adding oregano gel (Origanum vulgare) and the duration of its use on the surface roughness of silicone swapolymerization soft denture liners. This study was an experimental laboratory study with a post-test only control group design. The samples used were silicone swapolymerization soft denture liners with a diameter of 15 mm and a thickness of 10 mm. The number of samples in this study was 40 samples (n=40), divided into 8 groups (n=5). Samples in the tiruan saliva immersion, 0.5% sodium hypochlorite immersion, nistatin, and oregano gel (Origanum vulgare) groups were placed in an incubator at 37°C for 1 day and 7 days. Meanwhile, in the 0.5% sodium hypochlorite immersion group, the samples were first immersed in aquabidest for 24 hours at a temperature of 37°C in an incubator to simulate the oral cavity. Next, the samples were immersed in a 0.5% sodium hypochlorite solution for 15 minutes and 105 minutes, assuming a usage time of 1 day and 7 days. Surface roughness measurements were performed using a profilometer. The research data were analyzed using univariate tests to determine the mean and standard deviation of surface roughness in each group. Then, a one-way ANOVA test was performed to determine the effect of adding oregano gel based on the duration of use. The results of the univariate test analysis obtained the mean and standard deviation values with a usage time of 1 day in the tiruan saliva immersion group of 0.601 ± 0.159 μm, the 0.5% sodium hypochlorite immersion group of 0.542 ± 0.189 μm, the nistatin addition group was 0.388 ± 0.209 μm, and the oregano gel addition group was 0.145 ± 0.014 μm. The mean and standard deviation values with 7 days of use in the tiruan saliva immersion group were 0.299 ± 0.025 μm, the sodium hypochlorite immersion group was 0.318 ± 0.218 μm, the nistatin addition group was 0.499 ± 0.093 μm, and the oregano gel addition group was 0.100 ± 0.008 μm. The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed that there was a significant effect of adding oregano gel on the surface roughness of silicone swapolymerization soft denture liners based on 1 day of use with a p-value of 0.002 (p<0.05) and 7 days of use with a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05). From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the surface roughness value added with oregano gel has a lower roughness value compared to immersion in tiruan saliva, 0.5% sodium hypochlorite, and the addition of nistatin, so it can be used as an alternative prevention method by adding oregano gel as a natural antifungal ingredient to silicone swapolymerization soft denture liners. | en_US |
