This study aims to analyze the pronunciation errors of consonant and vowel sounds in reading Surah Asy-Syams and Surah Aṭ-Ṭāriq made by students in class XII of SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Medan, and to identify the factors causing these errors. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data obtained thru student reading records and questionnaires. The research results show that almost all students make pronunciation errors with consonant and vowel sounds. Errors in consonant sounds most often occur with the phonemes ث [θ], ذ [ð], ص [ʂ], and ق [q]. In Surah Asy-Syams, mispronunciations of consonants were found in several phonemes, including ث [θ], ج [ʝ], ح [ħ], خ [x], ذ [ð], ز [ʒ], س [s], ش [ʃ], ض [ɖ], ط [ʈ], ع [ʕ], غ [ɤ], ف [f], ق [q], ل [l], م [m], and ه [h]. Meanwhile, in Surah Aṭ-Ṭāriq, consonant mispronunciations include the phonemes ت [t], ث [θ], ج [ʝ], ح [ħ], خ [x], ذ [ð], ز [ʒ], س [s], ص [ʂ], ض [ɖ], ط [ʈ], ظ [ʑ], ع [ʕ], and ق [q]. The dominant vowel sound errors are the lengthening of the short vowel َـ [a] to the long vowel ـَا [a:], as well as errors in short vowels, long vowels, and tanwin in both surahs. The factors causing these pronunciation errors are classified into two categories: performance factors and competence factors.
