Design and Build Coffee Roasted Coolling Equipment
Abstract
The cooling process of roasted coffee is very important and affects the aroma and taste of coffee. Conventional cooling process by letting the roasted coffee in the open air takes a long cooling time, causing further burning and resulting in burnt coffee. Generally, the designed roasted coffee bean cooler has a large capacity in accordance with the capacity of the roasting machine, then it is inefficient if being used by small-scale roaster. Therefore, research on the design of a roasted coffee bean cooler is necessary. In this study, capacity of 2 kg roasted coffee bean cooler was designed, equipped with stirring arm and blower. Subsequently, the fabrication and testing of the roasted coffee bean cooler were carried out by observing the cooling time, the decreasement of coffee bean temperature, and also calculating the economic analysis. Results showed that the required time to decrease the temperature of 2 kg coffee by the roasted coffee bean cooler is 40 minutes with the targetted temperature of 35℃. The economic analysis of the roasted coffee bean cooler showed that this machine has a fixed cost of IDR 324,000/year, variable cost of IDR 19,534/hour, cost price of IDR 6,572/kg, Break-Even Point of 233.2 kg/year, Net Present Value at 6% of Rp 28,387,986/year, Net Present Value at 8% of Rp 26,825,673/year, and Internal Rate of Return of 44.34%.
