Income Analysis of Broiler Chicken Farming Using the Close House System at PT Gamerlang Semesta Abadi and the Open House System at Mrs Rosida’s Farm Under a Partnership Scheme
Abstract
Broiler chickens are known for their high productivity, relatively short
harvesting period, and efficient feed conversion. These advantages make broiler
farming highly potential for further development. This study aims to analyze the
comparison of income, production cost efficiency, and the Break Even Point
(BEP) between broiler chicken farms using close house and open house systems
under partnership schemes in Medan City. The research employed a descriptive
quantitative method, with data collected through interviews and direct
observations from several partner farms. Data analysis included the calculation
of fixed costs, variable costs, total production costs, income, business efficiency,
and BEP for price and production. The results showed that the close house system
achieved higher income and production efficiency compared to the open house
system due to better environmental control and more efficient feed utilization. The
BEP price for the close house system was Rp19,695.33 per kilogram, while that
for the open house system was Rp18,838.33 per kilogram. Although the BEP of
the close house system was higher, it produced more uniform chickens, lower
mortality rates, and more stabel profits. Based on these findings, the close house
system is recommended for farmers with sufficient capital and profitability in the
long term.
