REALINA SANRIANA SARAGIH, The Effect of Adding Organic Fertilizer
(POC) to the Nutrient Solution AB Mix on the Growth of Oil Palm Seedlings (Pre
Nursery) in the Hydroponic Wick System. (Supervised by ROSMAYATI, Chair of

Committee).
Problems in conventional oil palm nursery systems, such as nutrient limitations,
land dependence, and pest infestation, have encouraged the adoption of
hydroponic systems as a sustainable alternative. This study aims to evaluate the
effect of applying liquid organic fertilizer (POC) from goat manure and straw
waste on the growth of oil palm seedlings (pre-nursery) using the hydroponic wick
system. In hydroponic systems, water-soluble inorganic fertilizers such as AB Mix
already contain a complete range of macro and micronutrients that are easily
absorbed by plants. However, to support the principles of sustainable agriculture,
this study uses liquid organic fertilizer (POC) as an alternative. The study was
conducted in a greenhouse for 3 months using a non-factorial completely
randomized design (CRD) with 7 treatments and 3 replications, involving AB Mix
(control, AB Mix and goat manure POC concentration and AB Mix mixed with
Straw waste POC with concentrations of 400 ppm, 800 ppm and 1,200 ppm,
respectively). Observed variables included plant height, number of leaves, stem
circumference diameter, leaf width, leaf chlorophyll, root length, dry weight of the
crown and dry weight of the root. The results showed that the AB Mix treatment
provided the best vegetative growth compared to goat manure POC and straw
waste POC. Goat manure POC showed more stable growth than straw waste
POC. The best concentration of goat manure POC was 400 ppm which was able
to support the vegetative growth of pre-nursery oil palm seedlings. The best
concentration of straw waste POC was 800 ppm which produced the highest
vegetative growth and chlorophyll content in pre-nursery oil palm seedlings.
