Food safety plays an important role in maintaining health, and food safety issues have become a major concern in the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG), particularly among school-aged children. Food safety problems are still frequently found in school environments, such as unhygienic food serving practices and students’ lack of knowledge regarding the importance of food hygiene. Based on a preliminary survey conducted among students receiving the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) at UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Kisaran, it was found that some students transferred food using their hands without washing them with soap and had not fully understood the importance of food hygiene. This study aimed to analyze the effect of food safety education delivered through video media on the knowledge and attitudes of students at UPTD SMP Negeri 2 Kisaran participating in the MBG program. The research employed a pre-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design with a sample of 41 students selected using random sampling. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, and subsequently analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant increase in students’ knowledge, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Students’ attitudes also showed a significant improvement, with a p-value of 0.004 (p < 0.05). In conclusion, food safety education delivered through video media has a significant effect on improving students’ knowledge and attitudes. It is recommended that schools utilize video media as a routine educational tool to support the success of the MBG program and to enhance students’ awareness of the importance of food safety.en_US
