Analisis of Leading Sectors as Determinants of Development Priorities in Karo DistrictPri
Abstract
This study aims to determine the economic sectors that are basic and nonbasic, changes and growth of economic sectors, and leading sectors in the
economy in Karo Regency.
The data used in this study are secondary data sourced from the BPS of
Karo Regency and the BPS of North Sumatra Province. The analysis methods
used in this study are Location Quotient (LQ) Analysis, Shift Share (SS) Analysis,
Growth Ratio Model (MRP) Analysis and Overlay Analysis.
The results of the Location Quotient (LQ) analysis provide the conclusion
that Karo Regency has seven basic sectors and ten non-basic sectors. The results
of the Shift Share (SS) analysis provide the conclusion that there are twelve
sectors in Karo Regency that are growing rapidly, thirteen sectors that are
competitive, and eleven advanced (progressive) sectors. The results of the
Growth Ratio Model (MRP) analysis provide the conclusion that there are six
sectors included in classification I, two sectors included in classification II, six
sectors included in classification III, and three sectors included in classification
IV. The results of the Overlay analysis provide the conclusion that the leading
sectors in Karo Regency are the transportation and warehousing sector, the
accommodation and food and beverage provision sector, the education services
sector, and the health services and social activities sector. In an effort to
maximize the process of economic growth and economic development, the four
leading sectors must be made a priority for development in Karo Regency.
