| dc.description.abstract | Background: Temu giring rhizome (Curcuma heyneana Valeton & Zijp) belongs to the Zingiberaceae family. Temu giring rhizome (Curcuma heyneana Valeton & Zijp) has an active compound in the form of curcumin. Curcumin is the main active compound contained in temu giring rhizome (Curcuma heyneana Valeton & Zijp). This compound belongs to the polyphenol group, and has various important pharmacological properties, such as anti- inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer properties, and can help in the treatment of digestive disorders.
Objective: To identify and determine the total level of curcumin compounds in rhizome extract (Curcuma heyneana Valeton & Zijp) by densitometric thin-layer chromatography.
Method: In this study, samples of rhizome extract (Curcuma heyneana Valeton & Zijp) were analyzed by densometric thin-layer chromatography method where the comparators used were curcumin, silent phase of silica plate gel 60 F254 and motion phase of chloroform-methanol (95:5).
Results: The results of the identification and determination of curcumin levels in temugiring rhizome extract were obtained curcumin identification that the extract stain on the klt plate of Silica gel 60 F254 was the same as the comparison stain, namely kutcumin and the total curcumin level in temugiring rhizome extract was 5.6%.
Conclusion: Curcumin was identified in the extract of temu giring rhizome and the total content of curcumin compounds in temu giring was 56.9937 mgKE/g extract or 5.6%
