    Abstract
Activated carbon adsorption is a physical process that causes pollutant molecules to adhere to and become trapped on the porous surface of activated carbon. Carbon is more effective as an adsorbent after being activated with HCl, which is then called activated carbon. This study used corn cob biochar adsorbents to observe the effect of BOD and COD levels on palm oil mill effluent. Corn cobs pyrolyzed at 300°C-550℃ for 3 hours to produce carbon (biochar). The carbon was then sieved and activated to become an adsorbent. The adsorbents used in the study were 0.5 grams, 1 gram, and 1.5 grams for contact times of 60, 90, and 120 minutes. The adsorption process was carried out by stirring (jar test) at 150 rpm in 600 mL of palm oil mill effluent for each adsorbent mass variation. The results showed that corn cob biochar was effective as an adsorbent in reducing the BOD and COD levels of palm oil mill effluent. The higher the pyrolysis temperature, the better the biochar's ability to absorb organic compounds. The most effective adsorption results were obtained from biochar produced by pyrolysis at a temperature of 500°C-550℃, where the BOD level reached 10mg/L and the COD level decreased significantly.
