Introduction: Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). This study aims to investigate the relationship between atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and coronary lesion severity in Non ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarct (NSTEMI) patients. AIP is a simple quantitative metric that can predict coronary lesion severity which can reflect plasma atherogenicity.
Methods: One hudred and one patients who underwent coronary angiography examination were enrolled in this study and analyzed prospectively from April 2024 - December 2024. AIP value was obtained from log (TG / HDL-C) in fasting blood intrahospitalized examination while coronary lesion severity was obtained from SYNTAX score ( SYNTAX < 23 was categorized as non-severe CAD and SYNTAX ≥ 23 was categorized as moderate to severe CAD.
Results: This study were dominated by male patients (69.3%) with mean age of 61.68. Bivariat analysis showed a significant relationship between age, smoking and history of type 2 DM with the severity of coronary lesions (p = 0.029; p = 0.03; p = 0.002). AIP can predict the severity of coronary lesions with cutt-off value > 0,43 (AUC 0.689; sensitivity 64,1% ; specificity of 67.6%)
Conclusion: AIP were independent predictors of the severity of CAD, which could be used as a biomarker for the evaluation of the severity of CAD.
