dc.description.abstractThe increasing demand for energy and reliance on fossil fuels have driven the development of renewable energy sources, particularly wind energy. This study aims to analyze and compare the performance of three types of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWT): the H-type Darrieus, Savonius, and the Hybrid Savonius-Darrieus turbine. The method employed in this research is Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) using ANSYS 2020 R2 software with steady-state simulation. Research variables include wind speed variations of 2 m/s, 5 m/s, and 7 m/s, as well as rotor rotation variations based on Tip Speed Ratio (TSR) to determine torque, power, and efficiency (Coefficient of Power/Cp) values. The simulation results demonstrate distinct performance characteristics for each turbine type. The H-type Darrieus turbine achieved the highest efficiency with a maximum Cp of 0.38 and a power output reaching 102.79 Watts at a wind speed of 7 m/s. The Savonius turbine produced a maximum Cp of 0.23 and a power output of 26.09 Watts, with optimal operational characteristics at low rotation (TSR 0.7). Meanwhile, the Hybrid Savonius-Darrieus turbine yielded a maximum Cp of 0.24 and a power output of 48.59 Watts. Although the efficiency of the Hybrid configuration is lower than that of the single Darrieus, this configuration proved effective in significantly reducing the operational TSR requirement to 1.5, indicating better starting torque capabilities compared to the pure Darrieus turbine.en_US
