Analysis of the Form and Impact of Ijime in Naoya Shiino's Novel I Can't Talk So Smoothly
Abstract
This study examines the forms and impacts of bullying in Naoya Shiino's novel I
Can't Talk So Smoothly by identifying the types of bullying and their impact on
victims. This study uses a descriptive method with a sociological and literary
psychology approach to determine the forms and impacts of bullying on victims.
This study shows that the forms of bullying found in the novel I Can't Talk So
Smoothly consist of three types of cases, namely three cases of relational bullying,
six cases of verbal bullying, and two cases of physical bullying. The impact of
bullying on victims in this novel is divided into four parts, namely anxiety, suicidal
thoughts, low self-esteem, and depression. This study reveals that bullying against
people who stutter has a negative impact, leaving psychological scars and affecting
their ability to socialize. The novel I Can't Talk So Smoothly serves as a medium
for social reflection and emotional education to understand the impact of bullying
and the importance of empathy in life.
