    Abstract
This study analyzes body-part idioms in the anime Sousou no Frieren by Kanehito Yamada by integrating semantic and pragmatic frameworks. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with observation and note-taking techniques. Semantic analysis is used to distinguish between literal and idiomatic meanings based on Chaer’s theory of meaning, while pragmatic analysis examines the context of idiom usage in dialogues between characters based on the pragmatic approach proposed by Yule. The results show that the idiom found in Sousou no Frieren involve 15 idioms that use body parts, namely te (hand), atama (head), kuchi (mouth), mi (self/body), ashi (leg), me (eye), and hara (stomach). These idioms convey figurative meanings intertwined with emotional and social experiences, such as te o kasu ‘to lend a hand’, atama no tarinai ‘to be unintelligent’, ashi ga sukumu ‘to be frozen in fear’, me no tsukedokoro ‘sharpness of judgment’, and hara o kukuru ‘to brace oneself’. Pragmatically, the idioms function to express attitudes, emotions, and relationships that emphasize responsibility in serious situations and signal familiarity in casual conversations. The findings highlight the role of body-part idioms in enriching the meaning of dialogue and constructing narrative interaction, while also offering implications for Japanese language teaching and translation studies.
