The current trend in the gaming industry is leaning more towards multiplayer games
because they are more appealing than singleplayer games. This research aims to
implement an effective competitive multiplayer system’s architecture. Implementation
aims to provide a more interactive experience because it involves multiple players in
real time. In this study, implementation was carried out on the “Super English” study
case with primary method of research being literature studies and official Unity
documentation. Developments of the game used Unity Engine and Unity Netcode for
GameObjects framework, Gaming Services from Unity to develop lobby system, while
Flask technology was used as the game server. Hosting is done on the Google Cloud
Platform environment with the Compute Engine to run game servers. Testing is done
through metric measurements to evaluate the efficiency of the system. Metric
measurement measures the memory usage while any multiplayer session is active.
Memory usage affected by number of clients in a session and the number of concurrent
multiplayer session. Metric measurements reveals that every multiplayer session uses
roughly 156.50 MiB with an extra of approximately 1.75 MiB for subsequents
clients. With multiplayer feature that offers new ways to interact in the game, the game
is no longer monotonous.
