| dc.description.abstract | This study analyzes the intrinsic elements and Bushido moral values in the novel Konbini Ningen by Sayaka Murata using a qualitative descriptive method with a semiotic approach to interpret signs, symbols, and meanings that emerge through narration, dialogue, and characters’ actions. The intrinsic elements examined include theme, characterization, plot, setting, point of view, language style, and moral message. Meanwhile, the analysis of moral values is based on the concept of Bushido proposed by Nitobe Inazō, which consists of Gi (justice), Yu (courage), Jin (benevolence), Rei (politeness), Makoto (honesty), Meiyo (honor), and Chuugi (loyalty). The results show that the main theme of the novel is the search for individual identity under the pressure of normative values in modern Japanese society. Keiko Furukura is portrayed as an individual who constructs the meaning of her life through her routine work at a convenience store. The narrative employs a mixed plot, with settings dominated by the convenience store and an urban social environment. The point of view uses the first-person pronoun “I,” the language style is minimalist and individualistic, and the moral message emphasizes individual freedom in determining one’s life choices. Bushido moral values are symbolically represented through Keiko’s professionalism, sincerity, politeness, moral courage, and loyalty to her work. Thus, it can be concluded that Konbini Ningen reflects Bushido moral values in the context of modern life while offering a critique of social standards of normality and affirming that happiness and human dignity do not necessarily align with societal norms. | en_US |
