The Effect of the Mnemonic Acrostic Method on Increasing Memory in Integer Operations Among Eighth-Grade Students of SMP Negeri 4 Pantai Labu
Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of the mnemonic acrostic method on
improving memory in integer operations among eighth-grade students at SMP
Negeri 4 Pantai Labu. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a
nonequivalent control group. The subjects consisted of 28 students, divided into
an experimental group and a control group. Data were collected using an
achievement test of 15 items, administered during the pre-test and post-test, and
analyzed using gain scores. Data analysis was conducted with an Independent
Samples T-Test using JASP software. The results showed that the gain scores of
the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group
(t = 3.512, df = 26, p = 0.002), with a mean difference of 3.429 and a Cohen’s d
of 1.328, indicating a large effect. These findings suggest that the mnemonic
acrostic method has a strong and significant effect on improving students’
memory. Therefore, the application of the mnemonic acrostic method is effective
in enhancing memory performance in integer operations
