The Influence of Agricultural Students’ Perceptions on Career Decisions in Agribusiness (Case: Student of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Medan)
Abstract
The agricultural sector plays a significant role in the Indonesian economy, but students perceive that careers in the industrial or government sectors provide higher social status than working in agribusiness or farming. This study aims to analyze the influence of agricultural students' perceptions on career decisions in agribusiness. The indicators studied include income prospects, social prestige, job opportunities, working conditions, family support, and self-efficacy. The study used a quantitative method with binary logistic regression analysis. The respondents were active students of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra in 2025 who were selected using purposive sampling. Data collected were ordinal data using a Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that family support and income prospects were indicators that influenced students' decisions regarding careers in agribusiness. These findings indicate that economic factors and family social support have a dominant role in shaping students' career decisions in agribusiness.
