Percut river is one of the rivers in Sumatera Utara which is a cross-regency/city river with an upstream starting in Tanah Karo across Deli Serdang Regency and empties into Bagan Percut. Percut river in North Sumatera Province is still lightly polluted in accordance with RI Government Regulation No. 82 of 2001 Class II. Therefore it is necessary to conduct research with the aim of calculating the pollution load of the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) parameters in the Percut river and to study the behavior of the Medan Denai District community on water quality in the Percut river. For the calculation of pollution load carried out using a predetermined equation to obtain the results of community behavior carried out using a questionnaire. Based on the calculation results show that the largest actual BOD pollutant load is at point 4 which is 2008,80 kg/day while the smallest actual pollutant load of BOD is at point 1 which is 1195,50 kg/day while the largest actual pollutant load of COD is at point 2 that is 42484,48 kg/day and the smallest actual pollutant load of COD is at point 3 which is 19943,11 kg/day. As well as the results obtained that the behavior of the people of Medan Denai Subdistrict influence the water quality of the Percut river. This was shown from the questionnaire results obtained that 41% of respondents still dumped garbage directly into the river and there were 36% of respondents still dumping household solid waste into the Percut river bodies. It was also found that there were 62% of respondents who disposed of household wastewater directly into the river without treatment. There were 13% of respondents doing bathing, defecating, and urinating in the river. It is known that as many as 30% of respondents still throw dead animals into the river, and 18% of respondents throw animal waste into the river. And also obtained that 11% of respondents still use Percut river water as a source of clean water. The behavior of the community if it is not done handling and raising awareness will cause the quality of river water to deteriorate in the future.en_US
