A Description of The Main Characters’ Conflicts Found in John Green’s Novel The Fault in Our Stars

Abstract

The title of this paper is “A Description of The Main Characters’ Conflicts Found in John Green’s Novel The Fault In Our Stars”. The problem and purpose of the study is to find out the conflicts of the main characters that are portrayed in the novel. The method that the writer used in this paper is library research to find certain data by searching and collecting some books which is related to the Description of conflict in literary work. Then, the author quoted the sentence or words that shows the conflicts and described that. In the case of the main character, there are two characters that considered as the main characters because they dominated the whole story, They are Hazel and August. In this paper, the author used the theory of conflict by Tennyson (1967). He divided conflict into two part, they are internal conflict and external conflict. The description of this paper would like to describe the portrayal of Hazel’s and August’s internal conflict and also their external conflict. They have their own Conflict within themselves which is considered as internal conflict, and conflict with society or other characters or even sometimes both of them has disagreement with each other named as the external conflict.

Judul dari kertas karya ini adalah “Deskripsi Konflik Karakter Utama yang ditemukan di dalam novel John Green The Fault in Our Stars ”. Masalah dan tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui konflik dari karakter utama yang digambarkan dalam novel. Metode yang digunakan penulis dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kepustakaan untuk mendapatkan data-data tertentu dengan mencari dan mengumpulkan beberapa buku yang berkaitan dengan Deskripsi konflik dalam karya sastra. Kemudian, penulis mengutip kalimat atau kata-kata yang menunjukkan konflik, lalu kemudian menggambarkannya. Dalam konflik karakter utama, ada dua karakter yang dianggap sebagai karakter utama karena mereka mendominasi keseluruhan cerita, Mereka adalah Hazel dan Agustus. Dalam kertas karya ini, penulis menggunakan teori konflik oleh Tennyson (1967). Ia membagi konflik menjadi dua bagian, yakni konflik internal dan konflik eksternal. Deskripsi makalah ini akan menggambarkan deskripsi konflik internal Hazel dan Agustus dan juga konflik eksternal mereka. Mereka memiliki Konflik mereka sendiri yang ada di dalam diri mereka yang dianggap sebagai konflik internal. Dan konflik dengan masyarakat atau karakter lain atau bahkan kadang-kadang keduanya memiliki ketidaksepakatan satu sama lain yang dinamakan sebagai konflik eksternal.
