    Abstract
The research is entitled Political Discourse of PM Theresa May: An Appraisal Analysis. Political discourse refers to the discourse practices engaged in by all actors – from politicians and organizations to citizens- in a political process. As the actors, politicians usually use a wide variety of tools and strategies to appeal their audience. To analyze a political discourse, the writer used Martin & White’s Appraisal theory to uncover the meaning of the political speech. Therefore, this study aims to find the Appraisal sub-system Attitude (Affect, Judgement, and Appreciation) in the speech of Theresa May, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and how those devices are used to convey the intention of the Prime Minister. The method being used in the study is the descriptive qualitative method. The data is taken from her speech on 20 July 2018 in Northern Ireland. The analysis of this study revealed two points; 1) 97 Attitudes, consisted of 11 Affects, 31 Judgements and 55 Appreciation, in which also consisted of 76 positive appraising attitudes and 21 negative appraising attitudes, and 2) the Prime Minister is really careful but furtive on addressing her speech to avoid any further problems, as seen from the dominance of Appreciation on the speech, followed by Judgement and Affect.

Penelitian ini berjudul Political Discourse of PM Theresa May: An Appraisal Analysis.
