Theme in Hypotactic Clause Complex in Beowulf Poem

Abstract

The title of this research is „Theme in hypotactic clause complex in Beowulf poem‟. The objective of this research is to find the kind of themes found in hypotactic clause complex in Beowulf poem and how that theme in hypotactic clause complex realized in Beowulf poem. The scope on this study is hypotactic clause complex in Beowulf poem. The systemic functional linguistic is the theory using in doing the research. The theory is using to find hypotactic clause complex and also to find themes in Beowulf poem. Qualitative research method is using in analyze this research. The finding of this research is topical theme is the most dominant theme found in this research with one hundred and fifteen (115) found. It is because usually in hypotactic clause complex, there are two subjects as each subject represent it own clause. Since hypotactic clause complex is the clause that needs another clause to depend on that makes textual theme second mostly found in Beowulf poem. There are one hundred and five (105) textual theme found in Beowulf poem. The less theme found in Beowulf poem is interpersonal theme with twenty five (25) times. Total themes found in Beowulf poem are two hundred and forty five (245). Theme realized in hypotactic clause complex in Beowulf poem by find out how many occurances of theme found in Beowulf poem.

Judul dari penelitian ini adalah „Tema pada klausa hipotaktik di puisi Beowulf‟.Penelitian ini memiliki objektif untuk mencari jenis tema yang terdapat pada klausa kompleks hipotaktik pada puisi Beowulf dan bagaimana terealisasinya tema pada klausa komplek hipotaktik pada puisi Beowulf. Jangkauan dalam penelitan ini hanya berkisar pada klausa hipotaktik didalam puisi Beowulf. Teori systemic functional linguistik adalah teori yang digunakan pada penelitian ini. Teori ini digunakan untuk mencari klausa kompleks hipotaktik dan tema. Metode kualitatif adalah metode yang digunakan dalam menganalisa penelitian ini dengan alasan metode inilah yang paling cocok digunakan. Temuan dalam penelitian ini adalah tema topikal adalah jenis tema dominan yang terdapat pada klausa kompleks hipotaktik yaiyu seratus lima belas (115). Ini dikarenakan biasanya dalam klausa kompleks hipotaktik, ada dua subjek yang masing masing merepresentakin masing masing klausa. Karena klausa komplek hipotaktik adalah klausa yang memerlukan klausa lainnya, ini membuat tema tekstual adalah tema kedua yang banyak ditemukan dalam puisi Beowulf. Terdapat seratus lima (105) jenis tema tekstual ditemukan dalam puisi Beowulf. Tema yang paling sedikit ditemukan adalah tema interpersonal yang ditemukan dua puluh lima kali (25). Total tema yang terdapat dalam puisis Beowulf adalah dua ratus empat puluh lima (245). Tema terealisasi dalam klausa kompleks hipotaktik dengan mencari berapa kali kemunculan tema yang terdapat dalam puisi Beowulf.
