Schematic Structure and Language Features of The Procedural Text in The English Dessert Recipes

Abstract

This thesis entitled “Schematic Structure and Language Features of the Procedural Text in the English Dessert Recipes” is the study about how is schematic structure and how are language features in English dessert recipes. The theory which is used in this thesis are a theory proposed by Christie and Martin and theory proposed by Anderson and Kathy (1998). The objectives of this study: (1) to find out the schematic structure of procedural text in English dessert recipes, (2) to find out the language features of procedural text in English dessert recipes. This thesis is qualitative descriptive research. The result of the research is found schematic structure and language features. They are identification and analysis. Schematic structure includes: goal/aim, ingredients, and steps and language features includes: amount and size given, imperative sentence with action verbs, imperative sentence to direct behaviour, prepositional phrase to tell where, preposional phrase to tell how long, conjunction or linking words, and use simple present tense. The researcher found out 102 clauses in imperative sentence with action verb and 62 phrases in imperative sentence to direct behaviour, prepositional phrase to tell where and prepositional phrase to tell how long.

Skripsi ini berjudul “Schematic Structure and Language Features of the Procedural Text in the English Dessert Recipes” merupakan sebuah kajian tentang bagaimana struktur skematik dan bagaimana fitur bahasa di dalam resep bahasa Inggris makanan penutup. Adapun teori yang di gunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah teori yang di kemukakan oleh Christie dan Martin dan sebuah teori yang dikemukakan oleh Anderson dan Kathy (1998). Tujuan dari kajian ini (1) untuk menemukan struktur skematik teks prosedural didalam resep bahasa Inggris makanan penutup, (2) untuk menemukan fitur bahasa teks prosedural didalam resep bahasa Inggris makanan penutup. Skripsi ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Dari hasil penelitian ini, ditemukan struktur skematik dan fitur bahasa. Struktur skematik termasuk: tujuan/sasaran, bahan, dan langkah-langkah dan fitur bahasa termasuk: jumlah dan ukuran yang diberikan, kalimat imperatif dengan kata kerja aksi, kalimat imperatif untuk mengarahkan perilaku, frasa preposisi untuk mengetahui di mana, frasa preposisi untuk mengetahui berapa lama, kata hubung atau menghubungkan kata, dan menggunakan simple present tense. Peneliti menemukan 102 klausa di kalimat imperatif dengan kata kerja aksi dan 62 frasa di kalimat imperatif untuk mengarahkan perilaku, frasa preposisi untuk mengetahui di mana, frasa preposisi untuk mengetahui berapa lama.
