An Analysis of Moral Values Found in Major Characters of Mona Simpson’s Novel Anywhere But Here

Abstract

This thesis is entitled An Analysis of Moral Values Found in Major Characters of Mona Simpson‘s Novel Anywhere But Here. The discussion in this thesis contains moral values from the relationship between mother and daughter in the novel. Ann August is the main character whois struggling to live with her manipulative mother Adele August‘s . The purpose of this paper is to find moral values that can be imitated from the relationship between mother and daughter. The author refers to the Moral Concept. The method used in analyzing the problem in this paper is descriptive qualitative. From the results of the analysis the author obtained, that in this novel there is a depiction of the struggle of a mother to raise her daughter and daughter who still love her mother even though her mother made her teenage years difficult.

Skripsi ini berjudul An Analysis of Moral Values found in Major Characters of Mona Simpson’s Novel Anywhere But Here. Pembahasan dalam skripsi ini memuat nilai moral dari hubungan ibu dan anak di dalam novel. Ann August adalah karakter utama yang berusaha untuk tetap berjuang menjalani hidupnya dengan ibu yang manupulati Adele August. Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk menemukan nilai moral yang bisa diteladani dari hubungan ibu dan anak ini. Penulis mengacu kepada Konsep Moral. Adapun metode yang digunakan dalam menganalisis masalah dalam skripsi ini adalah Deskriptif Kualitatif. Dari hasil analisis penulis memperoleh, bahwa dalam novel ini terdapat penggambaran perjuangan seorang ibu untuk membesarkan putrinya dan putrinya yang tetap menyayangi ibunya meskipun ibunya membuat masa remajanya sulit.
