    The Effect of Playing Online Games Moba Genre Toward Reading Skill of Young Adults

    Abstract
    This study attempts to find the effect of playing online games MOBA genre toward reading skill of young adults. This study was conducted by field research. The subject of the research was 20 young adults in Padang Bulan who were the player of the game. The instruments of collecting data were interview and reading skill tests as the qualitative descriptive data. Based on the results of the interview data, participants claimed their vocabulary increased after playing online games MOBA genre. It was also proven by the reading skill test they finished. The result showed vocabulary was the highest result in the reading skill test, followed by fluency, phonic, comprehension and phonemic awareness skill. After playing MOBA, not only reading skill increase, but it affected another English skill, such as speaking, listening and writing. The result of the research showed that playing online games MOBA genre can affect the players’ reading skill.
     
    Penelitian ini mencoba untuk menemukan pengaruh bermain game online genre MOBA terhadap keterampilan membaca orang dewasa muda. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui penelitian lapangan. Subyek penelitian adalah 20 orang dewasa muda di Padang Bulan yang merupakan pemain dari permainan tersebut. Instrumen pengumpulan data adalah wawancara dan tes keterampilan membaca sebagai data deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan hasil data wawancara, peserta mengklaim kosa kata mereka meningkat setelah bermain game online genre MOBA. Itu juga terbukti dengan tes keterampilan membaca yang telah mereka selesaikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kosa kata adalah hasil tertinggi dalam tes keterampilan membaca, diikuti oleh kelancaran, phonic, pemahaman dan keterampilan kesadaran fonemik. Setelah bermain MOBA, tidak hanya keterampilan membaca yang meningkat, tetapi juga mempengaruhi kemampuan berbahasa Inggris lainnya, seperti berbicara, mendengar dan menulis. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bermain game online genre MOBA dapat mempengaruhi keterampilan membaca pemain.
