An Analysis of Imagery in Ezra Pound Selected Poem

Abstract

This thesis entitled An analysis of Imagery in Ezra Pound Selected Poem. They are A Pact, Fransesca, The Garden, The Return, and A Virginal. In this thesis the writer analyzes about imagery. Imagery isa type of language which creates a sense impression, represents an idea, and thus heighten expression. In doing the research, the writer use descriptive qualitative analytic method. The writer analyses the structure by reading the poem carefully and giving the attention for each line that contains imageries and figurative languages. The writer uses the theory of imagery and figurative of language to analyze the poem. By analyzing the structure of the poem, the writer is able to define the meaning of the lines that contain imageries. After doing the research by using the theory, there are fours types of imageries depicted in the poems. There are visual imagery, tactile imagery, organicimageries, and olfactory imagery. Ezra Pound also uses metaphor, personification, and hyperboleas figurative language.

Skripsi ini berjudul Analisis Citraan dalam Puisi Terpilih oleh Ezra Pound. Puisi tersebut adalah A Pact, Fransesca, The Garden, The Return dan A Virginal. Dalam tesis ini penulis menganalisa tentang citraan. Citraan adalah jenis bahasa yang menciptakan kesan indera, mewakili sebuah ide, dan dengan demikian meningkatkan ekspresi. Dalam melakukan peenelitian penulis menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Penulis menganalisis struktur dengan membaca puisi dengan hati-hati dan memperhatian setiap baris yang berisi citraan dan figura bahasa. Penulis menggunakan teori citraan dan figura bahasa untuk menganalisis puisi. Dengan menganalisis struktur puisi, penulis dapat mendefinisikan makna kaliat yang mengandung citraan. Setelah melakukan penelitian dengan menggunakan teori, ada empat jenis citraan yang tergambar dalam puisi. Ada citra visual, citra taktile, citra organik, dan citra kinestetik. Ezra Pound juga menggunakan metafora, personifikasi, dan hiperbola sebagai figura bahasa.
