An Analysis of Sadistic Personality Disorder Portrayed on The Main Character in B.A Paris Behind Closed Doors

Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Sadistic Personality Disorder Portrayed on the Main Character in B.A Paris Behind Closed Doors”. This thesis discusses about the characteristics of sadistic personality and the causes of that sadistic personality disorder. There are two problems that focused in this thesis; the characteristics of sadistic personality and the causative factors causes of sadistic personality. The characteristics and the causes of sadistic personality are portrayed through the main character of Behind Closed Doors novel by B.A Paris. Jack Angel as the main character in Behind Closed Doors novel is portrayed as the frigid heart that torture his wife and his parent, and now planning to murder his sister. The method of research that is used in this thesis is qualitative method. Behind Closed Doors novel by B.A Paris is the primary source of data by using extrinsic approach and psychological theory. Psychological theory that is used in this thesis is the psychoanalytic theory by Sigmund Freud. The purposes of this thesis are to analyze and to prove that characteristic of sadistic personality disorder are portrayed through Jack Angel and to look back the causes of Jack Angel‟s sadistic personality disorder so can be understood the psychological problem which is often adopted as the motif of literary work. From this research it is found that Jack Angel is a person with sadistic behavior that portrayed through her behavior such as cruel behavior, manipulative, and demeaning behavior. The causative factor that causes of his sadistic personality is from genetic.

Skripsi ini berjudul “An Analysis of Sadistic Personality Disorder Portrayed on the Main Character in B.A Paris Behind Closed Doors”. Skripsi ini membahas tentang karakteristik kepribadian sadis dan penyebab gangguan kepribadian sadis. Skripsi ini berfokus pada dua masalah yaitu; karakteristik kepribadian sadis dan faktor penyebab penyebab kepribadian sadis. Karakteristik dan penyebab seseorang berkepribadian sadis digambarkan melalui karakter utama novel Behind Closed Doors oleh B.A Paris. Jack Angel sebagai tokoh utama dalam novel Behind Closed Doors digambarkan sebagai hati dingin yang menyiksa istri dan orang tuanya, dan sekarang berencana untuk membunuh saudara perempuannya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah metode kualitatif. Novel Behind Closed Doors oleh B.A Paris adalah sumber utama data dengan menggunakan pendekatan ekstrinsik dan teori psikologi. Teori psikologi yang digunakan dalam tesis ini adalah teori psikoanalitik oleh Sigmund Freud. Adapun tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk menganalisa dan membuktikan bahwa karakteristik gangguan kepribadian sadis digambarkan melalui Jack Angel dan untuk melihat kembali penyebab gangguan kepribadian sadis Jack Angel sehingga dapat dipahami masalah psikologis yang sering diangkat sebagai motif dalam sebuah karya sastra. Dari penelitian ini ditemukan bahwa Jack Angel adalah orang dengan perilaku sadis yang digambarkan melalui perilakunya seperti perilaku kejam, manipulatif, dan perilaku merendahkan. Faktor penyebab yang menyebabkan kepribadian sadisnya adalah dari faktor genetik.
