This thesis entitled “Improving Reading Comprehension of The Grade VIII Students SMP N 3 SibolgaThrough Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) Strategy” is a study about to find out the improvement of the students‟ reading comprehension. This research was conducted by using classroom action research. The method of research applied in this study is qualitative method and quantitative method. The qualitative data were taken from interview and observation. The quantitative data were taken from tests. The tests were given to the students in the form of pre test and post test. The result of data analysis showed that there was an improvement on the students‟ improvement in reading comprehension from each cycle. In the pre test, there were 38.17% (2 of 28 students) who got score ≥ 75. In the post test, there were 81.82% (20 of 28 students) who got score ≥ 75. There are 5 students failed to got score ≥ 75 because they are not interested in English subject. Tesis ini berjudul "Meningkatkan Pemahaman Membaca Siswa Kelas VIII SMP N 3 Sibolga. Melalui Strategi Kegiatan Berpikir Membaca (DRTA)" adalah studi tentang mencari tahu peningkatan pemahaman membaca siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif dan metode kuantitatif. Data kualitatif diambil dari wawancara dan observasi. Data kuantitatif diambil dari tes. Tes diberikan kepada siswa dalam bentuk pre test dan post test. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pada peningkatan siswa dalam pemahaman membaca dari setiap siklus. Pada pre test, ada 38,17% (2 dari 28 siswa) yang mendapat skor ≥ 75. Pada post test, ada 81,82% (20 dari 28 siswa) yang mendapat skor ≥ 75. Ada 5 siswa yang gagal mendapatkan skor ≥ 75 karena mereka tidak tertarik pada pelajaran bahasa Inggris.
