    The Usefulness of Computer-Assisted Tool “Wordfast Anywhere” in A Translation Process: A Case Study of USU English Department Students

    Abstract
    This study compared the translation with Computer-Assisted Tool: Wordfast Anywhere and without Wordfast Anywhere. This study was conducted using Levy comparative method to compare the speed and the quality of Wordfast Anywhere translation and manual translation. The respondents of this research were two students of English Departement of USU. The students were selected using TOEFL-like test. The texts used in this research were news item texts which consisted of no more than 250 words and were taken from www.jakartapost.com. The research was conducted in two ways, using Wordfast Anywhere and manually. The instruments of collecting data were qualitative data, the typing logger of the respondents as the speed meter and ATA error marking as the quality parameter. The result indicated that the translation speed was improved significantly after using Wordfast Anywhere. In manual translation, the respondents’ time was changed from 28 minutes to 13 minutes and from 35 minutes to 15 minutes after using Wordfast Anywhere. And the translation error points were reduced from 52 points to 19 points and from 23 points to 14 points. Based on the data, using Wordfast Anywhere can improve both the speed and the quality of translation.
     
    Penelitian ini membandingkan terjemahan menggunakan Alat Bantu Penerjemahan: Wordfast Anywhere dengan terjemahan tanpa Wordfast Anywhere. Penelitian ini dilakukan menggunakan metode komparatif milik Levy untuk membandingkan kecepatan dan kualitas terjemahan Wordfast Anywhere dengan terjemahan manual. Responden penelitian ini adalah dua mahasiswa Sastra Inggris USU. Mahasiswa tersebut dipilih dengan tes seperti TOEFL. Teks yang dipakai dalam penelitian ini tidak lebih dari 250 kata dan diambil dari www.jakartapost.com. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan dua langkah, menggunakan Wordfast Anywhere dan secara manual. Instrumen pengumpulan data adalah kualitatif yaitu dengan menggunakan logger ketikan responden sebagai acuan kecepatan dan penilaian eror ATA sebagai acuan kualitas. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa waktu terjemahan meningkat secara signifikan dari 28 menit menjadi 13 menit dan dari 35 menit menjadi 15 menit setelah menggunakan Wordfast Anywhere. Dan poin eror terjemahan juga berkurang dari 52 poin menjadi 19 poin dan dari 23 poin menjadi 14 poin. Berdasarkan data yang ada, Wordfast Anywhere mampu meningkatkan waktu dan kualitas terjemahan.
